Baan Dek

Kirstin Gilbertson

Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? Your background, your interests, your dreams?

I have 3 brothers, 2 older and 1 younger. I’m lucky enough to be able to call my brothers my best friends. I love the mountains, and would love to live closer to them. One of my dreams is to own a house on an acreage in the mountains and adopt as many pets as I can.

Q: How were you first introduced to Montessori?

I was first introduced to Montessori in 2004 when my younger cousin started preschool in Minneapolis.

Q: What was it about Montessori that resonated with you?

To see how the children who have been to Montessori school are so independent, and so well mannered, at such a young age.

Q: What brought you to Baan Dek?

The opportunity to be a part of a Montessori school program in the town I live in, which I did not believe was possible until I found Baan Dek.

Q: What treats do you always say yes to?

Chocolate. I love chocolate.

Q: What are your favorite colors?

My favorite colors are yellow, purple, and green.

Q: What is your favorite childhood book or movie?

Some of my favorite books include The Giver, Little Women, and The Great Gatsby.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time?

I spend my free time by hanging out at home with my 3 kitties, spending time with my niece and nephew, reading, and trying out cooking or baking new recipes.

Q: What is your favorite animal and why?
My favorite animal is either a cat, or hedgehog.

Q: What did you want to be when you were little?

I have always wanted to be a teacher.

Q: What’s a fun fact about your life?

I love food! My dad is a chef, and I was a very picky eater as a child. Luckily I grew out of that phase, and now trying new foods and restaurants is one of my favorite things to do!
