Baan Dek

Bill Buhner

Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? Your background, your interests, your dreams?

I was raised in a family of 5, the youngest of three boys, in the small town of Pipestone, MN. From there I went on to college at Southeast Tech. and The University of Sioux Falls where I got my Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. My wife and I recently had our first child, a baby boy named Braxton. We spend a great majority of our time at home hanging out with him and watching him grow and learn!

Q: How were you first introduced to Montessori?

We were in my wifes hometown and we drove by a building that said “montessori”. I asked her what it was and she said she had no idea. I ended up Googling it later that day and it peaked my interest. I read a bit about it but really dove in when I started at Baan Dek.

Q: What was it about Montessori that resonated with you?

I have always had an affection for working with children. Montessori is a wonderful and unique way of learning and has proven results. It is extremely rewarding to experience the learning and growth that a child goes through in the few years that they spend at Baan Dek.

Q: What brought you to Baan Dek?

I wasn’t entirely happy with the desk job I had at the time and knew that I wanted to be back working with children. When I came across the job opening at Baan Dek I knew it would be a great opportunity for me to get back into the field that I enjoy so much!

Q: What treats do you always say yes to?

I can never say no to a good doughnut!

Q: What is/are your favorite color/s?

My favorite color is blue. Unless it is football season and then my favorite colors are purple and gold.

Q: What is your favorite childhood book or movie?

My favorite books growing up were anything Dr. Seuss. I always thought the creativity and imagination that he was able to create in his stories were amazing!

Q: How do you like to spend your free time?

My wife and I spend almost all of our free time hanging out with our new child! We also are huge sports fans (mainly football and basketball) and try to squeeze in the occasional movie whenever we can.

Q: What is your favorite animal and why?

My favorite animal is a dog. Ever since I can remember we had dogs growing up and we currently have a Lab.

Q: What’s a fun fact about your life?

I have a total of 14 nieces and nephews!
