Baan Dek

Carolyn Hunter

Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself? Your background, your interests, your dreams?

I grew up in Madison, SD, attended Augustana, spent three years as a Montessori teacher, both assistant and lead before moving back to the Sioux Falls area.

Q: How were you first introduced to Montessori?

I discovered Montessori through friends who sent their child to Baan Dek.

Q: What was it about Montessori that resonated with you?

Montessori is an incredible method that encourages children to learn and explore the world around them. It encourages independent thinking, celebrates the joys of success, the understanding of mistakes and brings passion to learning in all areas of life.

Q: What brought you to Baan Dek?

I had been looking for an opportunity to grow in a Montessori that sees the value of the education of the children as equally important as the education of its guides. Learning is a life long journey — one that continues to grow, no matter your age. I’m eager to learn, train, and work toward my AMI certification.

Q: What treats do you always say yes to?

Q: What is/are your favorite color/s?

I used to joke that my favorite color is green because my last name is Hunter, but it really is green!

Q: What is your favorite childhood book or movie?

I used to watch The Parent Trap (with Lindsay Lohan) so often, I could quote the entire movie from beginning to end.

Q: How do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy being around water, whether it’s walking the dog around the lake, kayaking or water skiing. I also enjoy yoga, outdoor concerts and Huskers football.

Q: What is your favorite animal and why?

I love dogs! They’re loyal, fun, energetic, happy and always up for an adventure!

Q: What’s a fun fact about your life?

I have played the piano for 25 years.
