Baan Dek

Casting the Light, and Moving on

Thoughts & Reflections

As I step back into my role as Head of School at Baan Dek, I’m filled with both deep gratitude and quiet determination. In many ways, this return feels less like a “comeback” and more like a homecoming – a natural continuation of a journey that began with a simple yet powerful vision:

To Cast the Light, and move on.

Montessori education teaches us to guide with intention, to observe without interference, and to trust the child. In the same spirit, leadership at Baan Dek has always meant planting seeds – nurturing a culture of independence, curiosity, and joy – while trusting the community to carry the light forward.

That light is not about any one person. It’s about a shared belief in the child. A belief that with love, respect, and a carefully prepared environment, children will show us who they are and who they’re becoming. And it’s our role – not to shape them, but to shine a light on the path and step back so they can walk it on their own.

“Don’t shine so others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see.”

– C.S. Lewis

My Return is grounded in this vision: to illuminate the way, hold space for growth, and then let go with grace.

At Baan Dek, we believe that children, parents, and teachers grow together – each influencing and inspiring the other. When we cast the light, we do so not just for the child, but for the whole community. In this way, Montessori is not only a method, it’s a movement – one that begins in the classroom and ripples outward with love.

We are building a legacy, not by holding on tightly, but by investing in systems, people, and practices that are strong enough to last beyond us. I’m here to rekindle that vision, strengthen the foundation, and empower the next generation of leaders, educators, and dreamers.

I’m honored to be walking this path with you. And when the time comes, I’ll cast the light again – and move on.
