My First Book of Patterns
News and Updates
Our founders, June and Bobby George, have written a series of Montessori-inspired children’s books. The latest, published with Phaidon, is called My First Book of Patterns.
One of the great beauties of Montessori is how everything is pared down to its barest minimum, simplified, in order to make it accessible to children. When we un-complicate, children understand.
We know about colors and shapes, but what about patterns?
Stripes, polka dots, plaid, chevron, and more are featured in this first-ever patterns concept book that provides readers with the vocabulary to name what they see in the world around them. The ten most prevalent patterns are presented first as a single element (This is a circle …), then as a pattern (… a lot of circles make polka dots!).
It’s getting quite a lot of attention, which Bobby and June are surprised, delighted, and humbled by. For example, the Wall Street Journal recently featured My First Book of Patterns as one of the best children’s books of the year, as well as the LA Times.
